She understands how to help children navigate and overcome personal barriers to learning. Evelyn received training from the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana in Orton-Gillingham instructional methods.
She implemented brain-based strategies while teaching 3rd grade at a private Christian school, including immersive and transformative reading in the classroom. Students were taught to explore text for meaning and joy to build strong vocabulary, as well as to creatively express their ideas through stories and poetry.
By the grace of God, every student, ranging from gifted learners to students with disabilities, attained 100% measurable growth in mathematics. Each student was challenged and supported to achieve data proven progress.
After the birth of their daughter, Abigail, Evelyn decided to step out of the classroom to provide private tutoring. She is currently accepting new tutoring students in several subjects. She uses Orton-Gillingham methods to help students with dyslexia, elementary reading struggles, and math challenges.
