Attention Process Training (APT):
Attention Process Training (APT) involves auditory and visual
tasks designed to improve attention and concentration, working
memory, divided attention, & processing speed. APT is
a program that requires about 10-20 sessions, preferably two
to three times per week. Additional home-based exercises are
included in this program to help your youngster practice and
master skills. APT has been shown to improve cognitive skills
that are deficient in ADHD and learning disabled youngsters
FastForWord Training:
FastForWord® is a computer program for children who've
been diagnosed with reading disorders such as dyslexia, as
well for children who have below average phonemic awareness
(ability to recognize sounds associated with letters &
words). FastForWord utilizes acoustically modified sounds.
This program "stretches out" the basic sounds in
words so that your child's brain has more time to process
them. FastForWord strengthens the phonetic decoding and blending
skills that are fundamental to reading. This program can be
completed on your home computer. Requires one hour, five days
per week for 6-8 week
Lindamood-Bell® Programs:
Lindamood-Bell® programs are research based, specialized
programs for children with Language disorders such as dyslexia,
reading disorders, autism spectrum, and related learning problems.
Lindamood-Bell® programs consist of classroom & tutoring
programs, computer programs, workbooks, and related programs
that help children with phonemic awareness, symbol and concept
imagery, encoding or spelling, andrelated skills. Many of
these programs can be utilized at home, in school, or during
tutoring.
Learning Lab:
Is your child performing below his or her capabilities? Learning
Lab will evaluate your child's learning style, motivation,
meta-cognitive skills, & related areas. You will understand
how your child learns & solves problems. Move beyond simple
tutoring and skill development. Learning Lab participants
would also benefit from the follow up session, Homework 101.
Homework 101:
Do you dread doing homework? Are you working harder at
completing homework than your child? Homework 101 is designed
to provide your child with organizational tools, including
a Homework Box, that will help him or her to color code, jump
start the brain with multi-sensory input, improve focus &
concentration, & become more self-reliant and motivated.
This program is essential for children with ADHD!
Meta-Cognitive Tool Boxes:
Meta-Cognitive skills are essential for learning. Meta-cognition
involves "learning to learn." Children know what
they have to learn. But often they don't know HOW to absorb
& master this material. Meta-Cognitive Tool Boxes are
available for reading comprehension, writing, & math.
Move beyond basic skill development. Help your child develop
cognitive skills that will improve his or her self-concept,
motivation & effort, ability to solve problems, &
overall academic competency. Learn to apply specific skills
to schoolwork. Utilize a non-verbal, process approach with
your child. Help your student be more independent and self-directing.
Tailored to your child's learning style and educational needs.
Mnemonic Detective:
Mnemonic Detective is a session for children 4th grade &
up who need to improve their verbal memory skills, retain
new learning with less effort, and retrieve information faster
on exams. Mnemonic techniques involve dual encoding theory,
which means that we learn & remember words more quickly
when they are visual. Your child will learn basic mnemonic
techniques. Learn definitions, vocabulary words, foreign words,
& technical terms effortlessly. Move beyond rote rehearsal.
Learn more information in less time.
Memory & Picture Mapping:
Memory & Picture Mapping are techniques designed to
help children utilize their imaginative, creative, & artistic
skills to study more effectively for exams, take notes, &
improve reading comprehension. This program includes picture
& memory mapping, key word techniques, concept mapping,
& related methods. Memory & Picture Mapping involves
interactive techniques like doodling, one liner techniques,
collage, & animated stories to make study material more
interesting. This program is strongly recommended for children
who have completed Mnemonic Detective.
Study Skills Training:
Study Skills Training involves the application of state
dependent learning, elaborative rehearsal strategies, and
Super Learning techniques. Prevent mind wandering, improve
note taking skills, foster incubation of new learning &
reduce interference effects, and promote relaxed, enjoyable
learning. Practice relaxation skills and positive learning
expectations. The focus of this session is on studying, note
taking, & test taking skills.
Advanced Mnemonic Techniques:
Advanced Mnemonic Techniques is a powerful mnemonics session
that focuses on encoding larger chunks of information in sequence,
such as the Periodic Table of Elements or the presidents.
Using a technique called the Method of Loci, which dates back
to the ancient Greeks, your student will gain confidence and
learn ways to store and retrieve new information quickly.
Chaining techniques are useful for learning lists of items
and historical events/dates. Mnemonic techniques are fairly
easy to learn. They are used by individuals who perform amazing
memory feats, such as remembering Pi to the one thousandth
digit! Success in school requires strong verbal memory skills.
Give your child the advantage of an excellent memory.
